We welcome visitors with legitimate research needs to consult our collections on site. Reading privileges within the library are available to visitors and do not require special documentation or application. To check out materials, you must apply for and receive AHTL Special Borrower status. The card does not provide remote access to Harvard’s licensed e-resources. Visitors may use e-resources inside the library, but remote access is not permitted due to our agreements with publishers. Visitors, upon arrival at the library’s entrance, will need to wait for the circulation staff to open the gates and will be asked to sign our visitor log and provide a photo ID. Regular visitors may wish to apply for an AHTL Access card to enter without stopping to sign the visitor log. The card has a one-time fee of $10, is valid for one year, and is renewable. Applications are available at the circulation desk, Monday-Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM (except University holidays). There is a $25 fee for replacing lost AHTL Access cards.
